Being a mom to an 18 month old, it is difficult to squeeze in running in a week. Sometimes I have to cancel a morning run because I didn’t get enough sleep from consoling my son (he’s teething now and because of jumping all day his body aches through the night). I worry when I can only run three times in a week. That not being able to get more running mileage will effect my performance come race day.
That’s why I was so surprised with my 10K run in UP last Sunday. Finishing it in less than an hour. And my average pace for that run was 5:28min/Km. I didn’t have a goal for that day. I just wanted to run long and enjoy the greenery.
And I realized, I don’t have to run more to improve more. Having ample rest is vital to a good run.
Just like being a mom, sometimes I need to “recharge” from being a mom. And when I do, I’m better at bonding with Sky.
Today, I had a massage and just rested my happy running feet

Wow you’re so dedicated!
My first run was the OROFOLS event and it felt really good, my legs and thighs ached for 2 days but I still managed to walk up and down our stairs at home.
After the OROFOLS, I told myself I will run every sunday at baywalk. But now I can’t even run once a week, because everytime I schedule a sunday morning run it rains
. I’m not aiming to have a faster time in running, heck I’m not really a runner but it seems like the easiest & cheapest way to exercise nowadays.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the nice comment and for dropping by… I’m really disciplined when it comes to exercising (even before I started seriosuly running). After 3 months that I gave birth – I did brisk walking, lunges and squats with my son in the stroller! I also used my son as my weights when I’m doing some biceps curl or some abs exercises… You don’t have to be as crazy as me to squeeze in some exercise time. A good 30 minute of power walking and jogging will do in the beginning… Yun nga lang – disiplina lang, mahirap sa simula – but when you see the results (and not just loosing weight, you feel good too) – you will MAKE TIME for it.
Hey, you’re doing well! Sometimes, the rest is important, especially with an 18 month old!
Tell me about it! It gets crazy… Can’t wait for him to be big enough to join me in my runs!
hi,
i just came across your interesting blog. about that item about skipping workouts due to household chores, i was tempted to say that you can take comfort with the fact that you can use it as you rest day. take it from hal higdon at halhigdon.com. he says “Rest: Despite my listing it at the end, rest is an important component of this or any training program. Scientists will tell you that it is during the rest period (the 24 to 72 hours between hard bouts of exercise) that the muscles actually regenerate and get stronger.”

and coach rio says the same!
well on the second thought, i browsed through you “about” page and i thought, well, as a physical therapist, i am sure you know more about physical conditioning than i do! hahaha

HI Nick! I know about the importance of rest – but sometimes, I get too stubborn. And I abuse myself a little (that didn’t sound right
And I wasn’t able to practice Physical Therapy since I graduated! I’m just polishing my brains now. Thanks for the nice comment and for the advice too!
