Every year my mother spends her birthday by holding a Christmas/Birthday party for all their construction workers and their families. More often Mama is seen as “dogmatic” by people who don’t know her. We know she does have an aura of “don’t-mess-with-me-or-I-will-make-your-like-a-living-hell”, but she is NOT at all like that…. Well, maybe sometimes when the need arises.
A lot of people don’t know this, but she (and Papa) has a penchant of doing random acts of kindness to close friends – and even to strangers.
There was one time Mama was riding the LRT, and she saw a father carrying his 12-year-old son, who is autistic; behind his back – for a check-up at PGH. She asked for their contact number, and after a couple of days, she along with Papa – delivered a brand new wheelchair to the father and son’s residence in Meycauyan, Bulacan.
Another instance was when she saw her long time friend from high school, who became mentally incapacitated. When mama visited her friend’s house, which was literally made from cardboard… They had a small cement house built for her and her family.
These are just two of the many acts of kindness that my Mama has conspired to do with Papa. Today, she celebrates her 60th Birthday with so much excitement… Because she’s finally going to get her Senior Citizen’s card!
HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY MAMA!
