A Different kind of Salon.

Precy of David’s SM Northedsa has been cutting my hair since 2003. It was a sad day when she left for greener pastures abroad. I had been badly needing a good haircut since last December 2008. But her abrupt departure gave me a hard time to find a good stylist to take care of my hair.

My hair has been long and wavy since time immemorial and I was thinking of getting a VERY, VERY SHORT HAIRCUT. And my hair is as dead as it can be. I wanted to have my hair colored too – a reddish chestnut brown hue. A drastic change I know :)

So, I researched the various Pinoy forums last night for a good salon in the Quezon City area. And Acqua Salon in Trinoma had a lot of good reviews on the stylists there. And so I went with my brother’s girlfriend.

When I went in, Racquel (the receptionist) gave us a warm and sincere welcome and called the stylist to talk about the DRASTIC service I was asking for. I wore my hair in a ponytail the whole time I told him what I wanted him to do.

He then asked me to remove the elastic. And he proceeded to look at my scalp and hair. And he said…”Do you know how many people pay to have hair like yours? I’ll just shape your hair and give you a hair spa treatment. I don’t want to color your hair – it’s just dry – that’s all.”

“Huh? Talaga?” (Are you sure?) came my reply.

This is my first time to go into a salon in The Philippines that gave the service I NEEDED. How many times have I been offered to have my hair relaxed, colored and whatever treatment that promises great looking hair – but damaging it in the long run. NO PUSHY SALON PEOPLE HERE! :D

I was ushered to the back to have my hair shampooed first. It was quite relaxing to literally LIE DOWN – while having your hair washed squeaky clean. I didn’t have to strain my neck looking at the ceiling!

I was then given a quick massage and they lathered the Hair Spa concoction in every nook and cranny of my head and hair. And then after a good thirty minutes or so under the hot steam – I was given a rinse again and another massage… While waiting for Narry, the stylist that I spoke to – I had threading done on my upper lip too – for only 120 pesos!

Narry then came over and started to work his magic – he gave me bangs (which I am not used to) and he gave me a precision layer cut – while still keeping the length of my hair. He was quiet while he worked – which I like – and only spoke when giving me tips and such.

After drying out my hair naturally – it came out great and the feeling of “heaviness” was gone. I only had to pay 280 pesos for my haircut and 1,600 pesos for my hair spa treatment.

I came home with my hair  looking like this…

    That’s a nice new ‘do!

Salons in Manila are hostile to me

Because I’m proud to be kulot.

They all want to iron my hair, relax it, put a ton of chemicals on it whatever it takes to make it straight like a broom.

You just gave me an idea of what to write about next. :D

Hahaha – Good thing you never said YES! :D

I also get my hair cut by Narry. I used to go to diff salons but ever since I had my hair done at Acqua I just go there everytime. I even recommended it to my mom.
