Chillin’ at the Skye Lounge

The first time we attempted to go to the Skye Lounge was two to three Fridays ago. I didn’t know what to expect, and from what I saw on www.Spot.ph website – it was a good place to chill an unwind. And being a Friday, I wanted to relax in my flats, an easy denim skirt and a white shirt.

So, imagine my surprise when ladies in sky high stilleto’s , thigh-high dresses with plunging necklines were in line to get in the Skye lounge. We braved the new place-to-be when Vanessa, the receptionist let us go up – just to hang out at the bar.

I loved that they used artificial grass even inside the elevator. It was a way of prepping the visitors on how the vibe will be.

As soon as the elevator opened. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

It was a smorgasbord of young pretty ladies and young men who were either (A) Checking out each other or (B) Shouting to converse in the midst of the loud club music.

Guess what we did? Without any hesitation, we went back down to the lobby, thanked Vanessa and headed on to the quiet comforts of CAV for some wine. It was a MAJOR SENIOR MOMENT for me and my friends. :D

We learned that it was not as crowded and the place takes on a totally chill ambience during weekdays. Last Wednesday, we went back and enjoyed a very nice evening of chit-chat over some tapas and a GINORMOUS CARAFE of MOJITO.

Skye Lounge

I have to thank Vanessa for giving us a very comfortable couch to stay that night. It gave us a great night view of the area. And since it was a weekday, most of the patrons were corporate and business professionals both young and old – seeking an easy respite  in the middle of the work week.

Skye Lounge

At the moment Skye Lounge only offers tapas or pica-pica in the food menu. They serve tapas in solo or sharing portions. I highly recommend that you try out their BEEF SALPICAO, which is 220 pesos for a solo serving. It went well with the mojito that we were drinking. Be prepared to spend Php 220 to Php 600 for their tapas.

As for the drinks, the cheapest cocktail drink is Php 200 (from what I remember). We’re not big on drinking, but if you do plan on hanging out and drinking at least two cocktail drinks, and one solo serving of their tapas prepare to shell out Php 800 and above per person.

Skye Lounge

More than anything, you are definitely paying for the place than the food and drinks when you hang out at the Skye Lounge. Because it’s in an open space, I didn’t reek of smoke when we left. The receptionist (Vanessa) and our attendant that evening (Kim) were very courteous and pleasant. Which I think is a really big plus.

Remember that if you choose to reserve a table on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, there is a consumable charge of Php4,000.00 per table for 4 pax and  Php8,000 per table for 10 pax. If you’re planning to go there at around 9PM onwards on these days and plan on drinking and eating a lot, it’s best that you reserve a table ahead.

Skye Lounge

Just make sure to drink lots of water and take it easy between drinks before you get home! :D

SKYE LOUNGE is located on the roofdeck of W Building, which is located just behind Fully Booked store in Bonifacio High Street. You may call or text Ms. Pam for reservations at 0932-856-7593.

How to Prepare and Make Couscous.

Before I write another post on the strategies that you can heed when you go off vacationing to Disney World, which is related to my previous post. I would like to share the most basic way on how to prepare and cook Couscous!

What is Couscous according to Wikipedia?

Couscous (play/ˈkʊskʊs/ or /ˈksks/) is a Berber dish of semolina traditionally served with a meat or vegetablestew spooned over it. Couscous is a staple food throughout West Africa, Morocco, the Sahel, France, Spain, the Canary Islands, Portugal, Madeira, Brazil, Sicily, as well as in Turkey, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, and the Middle East.

Couscous is pretty much like pasta, but when cooked 1/3 cup of this has 9g of PROTEIN in it. And that is good number for me :)

Bob’s Red Mill Couscous available at Healthy Options for P250 for 1 Lb. bag.

For one (1) serving:

Boil one (1) cup of water in a non-stick pan.

Pour in half a cup (1/2) of Couscous as soon as you see the water really boiling.

Add in one (1) Tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Butter (EVOO is healthier)

Let it simmer in 3-5 minutes, continuously mixing the couscous.

Turn off the heat and continue “fluffing” the couscous before serving.

Goes best with almost anything! Tinola, Adobo and even Bulalo! :D

Food Finds at Mercato Centrale

After a fun Mommy Milkshake run with Sky last Sunday, I was hell-bent on trying out some of the must-do’s over at the ever famous Mercato Centrale.

And heard that there was really good GREEN TEA Mochi there too. I love Mochi and I am a big fan of Green Tea!

So, for now – here are my food find recommendation during my visit last Sunday. There are more to try there for my next visits – but have to make sure I have more than enough room for my bulging tummy.

They have an assortment of pork barbecues, isaw na baboy, tenga ng baboy and even grilled corn! Sky had two sticks of pork barbecue (40 pesos) and had a stick of “betamax (30 pesos).

This bowl of Hainanese Chicken from NASI is tasty and a great post-race meal. It is kind of expensive at 200 pesos for a serving, but I guess it fits the price because they were really generous with the Ginger sauce and the red sauce – that is a bit tangy and sweet.

I also took a serving of the must-have Bale Dutung’s Pan de Bagnet back home. I liked the way they packed the dressing and greens separate from the sandwich – it’s as if we had it fresh from Mercato after I popped it in the oven for 3-5 minutes. One sandwich is 200 pesos. And worth every centavo, if you are a big fan of crunchy, mouthwatering pork bagnet!

I just bought a box of 4 of the Supreme Brazo Bars by Ces Lopez! Toink! I should have bought more! I am not a brazo-enthusiast, nor am I a connoisseur. But, a bite of this is the perfect mixture of sweet fluffiness that just makes your heart go… *SIGH* Not too sweet at all, and the 4 bars was gone in less than an hour. I shared this okay? :D One box of 4 is 140 pesos – I think. I don’t exactly remember anymore.

Now, this was my favorite food find that day. The Green tea flavored ice cream filled mochi from Mochiko Mochi was so good. But the Black Sesame flavored one was THE BEST! I bought a box of 6, but only got 1 black sesame flavor, the rest were green tea, strawberry and chocolate. One box of 6 is 400 pesos, and you can pay and reserve a box or two as soon as you get there – and just take it home with you after you stuff yourself silly with with other Mercato Centrale foo fares.

Mercato Centrale is located near MC Home Depot and Startbucks Drive-Thru over at Bonifacio Global City. They’re open Saturdays and Sundays from 7am to 2pm! :)

My Top 5 Weird Comfort Food!

Whenever its that time of the month or I am just feeling really melancholic, I have a tendency to reach for certain food/s that comforts my heart a bit when I take in a bite.

Most people would usually say that it’s a slice of chocolate cake or a scoop of ice cream, don’t get me wrong – I love chocolates and anything sweet. But for me, I do have a top 5 list of my favorite comfort foods that borders on the weird for most.

  1. CHICKEN ISAW. Be it barbecued or deep fried chicken intestines, swimming in sweet and spicy vinegar – a serving (or a kilo?) of this certainly hits the spot. My papa used to bring me to the “kanto,” when I was 6 years old and we would snack on these barbecued chicken intestines, and gulp it down with iced cold sago gulaman beside the tricycle drivers and the passing jeepneys. The smell of grime, smoke and barbecued isaw actually reminds me of awesome childhood memories. I also remember my mama screaming at papa after our “kanto” adventures, and he would just smile at mama and give me a wink.
  2. LUMPIANG BALAT. Yes, it’s that tortilla-like bland, white bread that is notoriously known to be so unsanitary prepared? Yes, that’s the one that I eat raw – right from the plastic bag – up until now! Mama used to buy loads of this when I was young every weekend, and I would snack on it while she used it for her turon or lumpiang toge.
  3. SPAGHETTI PASTA DOUSED WITH VINEGAR AND BROWN SUGAR. I know what you’re thinking… BLLLEEEECCH! This one dish was introduced by an aunt based in Florida, back when I was 15 years old. Being 15, in a foreign country, with a lot of cute guys, and yet I was in that awkward stage of being boyish, hair cut short and with a ginormous pimple on my left cheek. And then, BAM! We were at a fancy italian restaurant in Epcot, and I was petrified just reading the menu! I guess my aunt saw the pain and anguish on my face – and she ordered a small plate of spaghetti doused with sweet vinegar and parmesan cheese – IT WAS HEAVENLY!
  4. COKE FLOAT WITH CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM. Instead of vanilla, I place a scoop of chocolate ice cream in a cold glass of coke. It looks like bubbly mud and shit mixed together – but hey, IT’S AWESOME! This one, I just tried and came to love too!
  5. UNCOOKED MAMI NOODLES. I have a friend who cringes whenever she sees me take a bite of raw, uncooked noodle. This I learned to snack on, well because Chippy and Tortillos were too expensive for us to buy back then. Mama would make steamed buto ng langka, brownies from scratch or fried saging na saba for our snacks. But being a muncher that I am – I improvised. I bit off a piece of maggi uncooked chicken noodle – and I NEVER LOOKED BACK! :D
How about you? Do you have some weird comfort food too?
