Chillin’ at the Skye Lounge

The first time we attempted to go to the Skye Lounge was two to three Fridays ago. I didn’t know what to expect, and from what I saw on www.Spot.ph website – it was a good place to chill an unwind. And being a Friday, I wanted to relax in my flats, an easy denim skirt and a white shirt.

So, imagine my surprise when ladies in sky high stilleto’s , thigh-high dresses with plunging necklines were in line to get in the Skye lounge. We braved the new place-to-be when Vanessa, the receptionist let us go up – just to hang out at the bar.

I loved that they used artificial grass even inside the elevator. It was a way of prepping the visitors on how the vibe will be.

As soon as the elevator opened. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

It was a smorgasbord of young pretty ladies and young men who were either (A) Checking out each other or (B) Shouting to converse in the midst of the loud club music.

Guess what we did? Without any hesitation, we went back down to the lobby, thanked Vanessa and headed on to the quiet comforts of CAV for some wine. It was a MAJOR SENIOR MOMENT for me and my friends. :D

We learned that it was not as crowded and the place takes on a totally chill ambience during weekdays. Last Wednesday, we went back and enjoyed a very nice evening of chit-chat over some tapas and a GINORMOUS CARAFE of MOJITO.

Skye Lounge

I have to thank Vanessa for giving us a very comfortable couch to stay that night. It gave us a great night view of the area. And since it was a weekday, most of the patrons were corporate and business professionals both young and old – seeking an easy respite  in the middle of the work week.

Skye Lounge

At the moment Skye Lounge only offers tapas or pica-pica in the food menu. They serve tapas in solo or sharing portions. I highly recommend that you try out their BEEF SALPICAO, which is 220 pesos for a solo serving. It went well with the mojito that we were drinking. Be prepared to spend Php 220 to Php 600 for their tapas.

As for the drinks, the cheapest cocktail drink is Php 200 (from what I remember). We’re not big on drinking, but if you do plan on hanging out and drinking at least two cocktail drinks, and one solo serving of their tapas prepare to shell out Php 800 and above per person.

Skye Lounge

More than anything, you are definitely paying for the place than the food and drinks when you hang out at the Skye Lounge. Because it’s in an open space, I didn’t reek of smoke when we left. The receptionist (Vanessa) and our attendant that evening (Kim) were very courteous and pleasant. Which I think is a really big plus.

Remember that if you choose to reserve a table on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, there is a consumable charge of Php4,000.00 per table for 4 pax and  Php8,000 per table for 10 pax. If you’re planning to go there at around 9PM onwards on these days and plan on drinking and eating a lot, it’s best that you reserve a table ahead.

Skye Lounge

Just make sure to drink lots of water and take it easy between drinks before you get home! :D

SKYE LOUNGE is located on the roofdeck of W Building, which is located just behind Fully Booked store in Bonifacio High Street. You may call or text Ms. Pam for reservations at 0932-856-7593.

Frazzled, but Happy at Enchanted Kingdom

It was a nice and summery  morning when we got to the entrance of Enchanted Kingdom last Saturday. It was almost 11:00AM by my watch and the Laguna theme park was just about to open when we got in line. And the line to the entrance was loooonnngg, even if you already have your tickets with you.

Enchanted Kingdom

We were given free tickets over the holidays, so might as well use them now. When there is still a sliver of holiday feel in the air.

I came with my wok colleague and her two kids. And of course, I had Sky with me. I was just really happy that the drive from Quezon City all the way to Laguna was surprisingly light for a Saturday.

We rode on all possible rides at the Boulderville area, which is specifically for kids. Pretty sure this place will be packed in the afternoon.

Enchanted Kingdom

Sky absolutely loves Carnival and fair games. As soon as he saw this mini version of a Sledgehammer game, he excitedly ASKED me if he could play.

Enchanted Kingdom

And when he got the go from me, he did his think and was able to make the mini bell ring!

Enchanted Kingdom

And he chose a rockstar guitar instead of another hammer for a prize :D

Enchanted Kingdom Rides

And then Sky rode on the twirling hot air balloon with his Tita Kristine, Kuya EG and Ate Alyssa. I didn’t go, because I really am not a big fan of rides that just go around and around and around.

Enchanted Kingdom

Sky looked pretty STOKED right after the ride… And he was ready for more…

Enchanted Kingdom

He did a really good job with this game. He was almost near the top, when he said he didn’t want to go up anymore because the ladder was TOO WOBBLY. :D

Enchanted Kingdom

Hydration is pretty important when you’re walking around a a big theme park with the sun so high up. It felt like summer!

Enchanted Kingdom Amazon Grill

Since, we will be staying up until the park closes. We had to take it easy in the afternoon. The Amazon Grill right smack in the middle of the park was a refuge from the hot and humid weather outside. It was cool, and not much people were there. We just had drinks, but I did notice that the food is way pricier here. A rice meal costs around 170 to 250 pesos. I would not recommend anyone to eat here. But, a place to chill and wind down away from the chaos of the crowd.

Enchanted Kingdom

When going around big places like Enchanted Kingdom, an easy to handle stroller is a must-have. It’s easier for us to go around, and its also a way of me having more energy to last the rest of the day… Or else, I will be carrying him around! And he’s getting HEAVY!

Enchanted KIngdom

The longest line that we queued for was for the RIO GRANDE ride. I don’t have any pictures, but I would advice you to fall in line for that ride as soon as it opens (which opens later than the park opening) or around 5PM – when its a little cooler to fall in line. We were in line for 45 minutes before we got to ride… Not bad at all, considering the number of people waiting too.

Enchanted Kingdom

I didn’t get any good shot from the fireworks that started at 8:30PM because of the slight drizzle. Fireworks lasted for 3 minutes and was enjoyed by the kids as usual.

Enchanted Kingdom Ticket Prices

We were all pretty frazzled, but HAPPY by the end of the day. And when we got to the parking lot, I had a really BAD FLAT TIRE. If it was just me, I would not have worried about it so much. Unfortunately, the guest relation people at Enchanted Kingdom did not offer any help at all. The girl there just kept making excuses that they can only help with the batteries and not the tire. Oh well, just happy that there was a good soul that helped us that night…. That story is reserved for another post!

Enchanted Kingdom is good to go to once a year. It’s a nice option from the usual malls, but it could use a lot of improvements. Especially with how they can “TEACH” their park-goers to throw their trash properly. And be MORE STRICT with QUEUEING ON LINE.

Please visit Enchanted Kingdom’s Official Site Here for more information on park times, rides, ticket prices and shuttle service from Makati City.

Get your Starbucks 2012 Planner with Just 14 Stickers!

Being a denizen of Starbucks over at Matalino st., Quezon city. Procuring 19 stickers (option 1) was a bit easy for me to do. Was able to get my Starbucks 2012 planner last week. I wasn’t really planning on making this as a career since there are a lot of good planners that are on sale now, like the one from Belle De Jour and the Navi 2012 planner.

For the Starbucks 2012 planner however, I loved it purely for it’s size. And I also loved the blank note page, which gives me freedom to jot down anything – that is opposite the weekly calendar. And the small brown satchel that is housed in is also a deal breaker for me.

From DECEMBER 13 to 15, 2011, you can get your STARBUCKS 2012 PLANNER with just 14 stickers!

So, hurry and drop by your nearest Starbucks tomorrow if you have 13 stickers! Buy one more drink and get your planner 2 weeks before the new year starts!

The OFW Project by Coca-Cola

With Christmas just around the corner, and with a lot of overseas filipino workers or OFW staying far away from their families this season. Watching this OFW project by Coca-Cola brought me to tears the first time I saw it.

Would just like to share this video to my friends who are overseas workers too. Have a great Christmas and be comforted that even if you are far away physically – you will always be close to your loved ones hearts…

Fieldtrippin’ at Pizza Hut, Seriland and at the Science Centrum

This is Sky’s second school field trip and hands down the funnest time we’ve had ever.

But I have to tell you that I wasn;t really jumping for joy when I had to pay an extra 1K for myself and just thinking of being in a BUS full of 4-5 year old BOYS was going to be one BIG headache for me.

Our Itinerary was:

6:30AM – Assembly time at school

7:00AM – Depart for Pizza Hut, Bluewave, Macapagal

9:30AM – Depart for Seriland inside Manila Ocean Park

12:00NN – LUNCH wherever

1:00 – Science Centrum at Marikina

3:30PM – ETA at school

Needless to say, we never got to follow the schedule. With 6 buses all in all of small crazy boys (and a handful of dainty girls) is indeed more than a handful to take care of.

I didn’t know what I was thinking. But I had enough food to last Sky and I for an overnight trip to the boondocks. So, I was carrying a backpack, a cooler and a small lunch bag; which are not so big, but kind of weighed like a ton when I was waiting for us to board the bus.

Because of the excitement the eve of the fieldtrip, both of us didn’t get much sleep. So, as soon as we boarded the bus and ate some of the cut-up peanut butter we had. We got ourselves settled and was ready to take a nap all the way to the destination. And then…

“OKAAAAYYYYY KIDDS! HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS MORNING?!!! C’MON LET’s SING THE ALPHABET!!!”

Holy crap. I wanted to grab Sky and hurl ourselves out the window. It’s an hour and a half drive and don’t tell me you’re going to talk all the way! Please HAVE MERCY!

Sky looked equally disturbed as I was with the screeching voice that was the tour operator. But, at the same time he was so sleepy he couldn’t care less and fell into deep sleep in a matter of minutes.

I, on the other hand, stuck my ever-reliable ipod and blasted the music to help drown out that screeching voice. And then, I was gone…

********************

We got to Bluewave around 8:30AM. And the kid’s made their own pizza, while donned in a complete chef’s outfit. Even the mommies and daddies got their own outfits and pizza’s too!

The waiting for the pizza to cook was the boring part. We waited for our own custom-made pizza in the bus. It was 10:30AM when we got it, and it was also then that we proceeded to the next venue.

SERILAND.

We’ve been going back at Manila Ocean Park twice this year. And I never thought of bringing Sky into that part of the ocean complex. Well, because it looked LAME.

Or so I thought.

There were 4 “lands” inside Seriland. There was the Trick Art room where everything is painted like it was in 3D, which for some weird reason the kids went crazy posing for pictures when they saw the images inside.

And then the 3D Cinema plus, where we watched a 10-minute Dinosaur show. For most part, I think the kids just loved being with their classmates and liked scaring each other inside the dark theatre.

Next one, was the Fantasy world; which is an indoor playground where you can let the animals in your boys roam free-like crazy.

Last one was the mirror maze, where we wore white gloves and had to find the exit on our own. And Sky found the exit in less than 5 minutes… So, he went back inside to join in the rouse inside the mirror maze.

We were in Seriland for two hours. It really felt like a half marathon of sorts. And we were ravenously hungry by the time we got in the bus.

And our lunch was gone in a matter of minutes. Pretty soon the boys were playing again.

We left Seriland at 2:00PM. From Manila, we trudged over Marikina at the Science Centrum.

The Science centrum was awesomely big. We only got to stay there for an hour and a half. I have to admit that I was pretty impressed with this hands-on museum. Sky was EVERYWHERE. He didn’t know where to begin. He would jump from one contraption over the other, and another and then back again to another.

I can see that maniacal ecstatic look in his eyes everytime he tries out one of the gadgets. And I bet that going inside a BUBBLE was dream come true for him.

Suddenly, I didn’t feel tired at all. And I was running alongside him when he wants to check out something with me.

We had a spectacular time!

When it was time to go. He started crying and bawling.

“I don’t want to leave yet MOM! I want to STAY HERE!”

I carried him and kept reassuring him that we’ll come back to Science centrum again. And we’ll spend the whole day discovering together.

It’s been a week since that field trip and I know I have to keep that promise REAL SOON! :D

In case you’re wondering, we got back home at 5:45PM and we were both ASLEEP by 8:00PM! Kasayang-kapagod :D

I highly recommend both Seriland and the Science Centrum as one of the best places you can bring your kid’s in Manila.

Visit Seriland’s Facebook page here and read more about Science centrum’s website here.
